People all over the world are taking CBD. And they’re finding new applications of the supplement almost every year. Cannabidiol, or CBD, has recently been researched for use by people with high blood pressure.
We looked into the science behind the research, and took a serious eye to whether there’s any indication that CBD actually works for high blood pressure. Then we reviewed five CBD products that we picked for their specific benefits. If you still have questions at the end, please check out the FAQs
Does CBD Lower Blood Pressure?
We want to give the reader as simple an answer as possible, and a direct one. But because we’re dealing with a serious medical issue that can have dire outcomes, we want to be extremely careful.
To begin with, we should talk for a quick moment about the difference between preventative medicine and remedial medicine. An easy example of the difference is our diet. If we eat less fat and sugar, that’s preventative. If we don’t change our diet, we need to exercise more, which is remedial, or “of a remedy.”
With high blood pressure you should look at what can be done on the front end of the problem. No medication or supplement is better for your heart and arteries than clean living. But if you already have high blood pressure, and you want to remedy the symptoms, then you can take certain medications.
Now we look at what has caused the high blood pressure to see what CBD can do to alleviate the symptoms. The not-so-good news is that we didn’t find a lot of evidence to support CBD treating plaque in arteries or any blood clotting issues. That means that if your high blood pressure is due to either of those causes, CBD may not be the remedy for you.
The great news is we found several studies supporting that CBD doses due lower blood pressure caused by hypertension. We’ll link them a bit later on. First we’ll explain how this works. If your blood pressure is high because of stress, anxiety, or acute onset due to high-pressure situations with increased heart rate, then CBD has been shown to lower the blood pressure in people like you.
The first and oldest study we found is available here at the US National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health. This study found that acute (or immediate or short term) application of CBD lowers blood pressure in cases where the blood pressure is caused by increased heart rate. The second study was conducted and published in 2019 in Brazil, and you can read it here. In it, researchers found that when assigned to give a public speech, participants who took CBD had lower blood pressure readings.
Finally, we found a study from last year that you can read here that supports not only lower blood pressure in people with hypertension, but also people with high cholesterol and people with obesity. Because this was the only study we found that supported help with obesity and cholesterol related high blood pressure, we are not as confident that CBD can help as reliably as it can with hypertension.

CBDfx: Editor’s Choice
Conducting our research brought us across a number of companies and products. Not much separated the procuts in terms of specific blood pressure effect. So we looked at every aspect of each company to find what could distinguish them from one another.
In the end, we chose CBDfx as an all-around company that deserved the designation Editor’s Choice.
CBDfx sets itself apart in a number of ways. One of the first that we noticed is their collaboration with medical doctors. These aren’t people called doctors with degrees in literature. They are a dermatologist, an internal medicine doctor, a pharmacology doctor of pharmacology, and a veterinarian.
The doctors put their full names and pictures right there on the website, and even offer reviews for specific products. While we do our own research, as seen above, it’s also nice to see an independent review from an actual doctor.
Another aspect of CBDfx that led us to give them the Editor’s Choice nod was their expansive list of products and recipes. We didn’t find any other brand with the range of available products combined with the range of additional ingredients.
Whether you’re looking for a CBD capsule to take before bed and also like melatonin or if you want a cream to help with sore muscles and like the additional effects of White Willow bark, CBDfx has your back.
When it comes to taking CBD for blood pressure, we kept in mind that there are a number of ways to get good effect. One way is to take a tincture at the onset of tension or anxiety, and for that CBDfx offers a tincture with added CBN, which is cannabinol, a compound that has even more calming benefits than normal hemp compounds. By adding extra CBN to an oil that’s already full-spectrum, CBDfx delivers a product perfect for easing tension and stress. And the ability of CBD to ease stress and anxiety is what our studies show help blood pressure the most.
We saw the same attention to detail and beneficial ingredients in all of CBDfx’s products. Capping off all their other high-points, CBDfx also boasts over 23,000 reviews. That’s an amazing number of verified customers offering feedback.
CBDfx receives our Editor’s Choice. Between their team of doctors, their unique recipes, and their wealth of reviews, they are an exceptional company for CBD relief of high blood pressure causes. Their Calming Tincture, which has a review from their pharmacology doctor, is available on their website starting at $39.99.
Spruce: Best Full-Spectrum CBD Oil
Many CBD products market themselves as either full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, or THC-free. One of the benefits of full-spectrum compounds is that they benefit from something called the entourage effect.
Reviewing CBD oils for high blood pressure, we found Spruce to offer the best of the full-spectrum oils.
If you’re unfamiliar with CBD terminology, full-spectrum means that there is nothing taken out of the hemp oil.
In order to comply with federal regulations, a hemp product cannot have more than 0.3% THC, which is the compound that makes you feel ‘high.’ But full-spectrum oil doesn’t contain enough for you to feel psychoactive effects.
Instead of any psychoactive effects, full-spectrum CBD oils offer the cannabinoids, cannabinol, terpenes, and flavonoids that the natural plant contains. By keeping all of these compounds in the product Spruce makes sure that you get all anti-anxiety and tension benefits of the oil.
Like we mentioned earlier in this article, everything we ingest can have an effect on the other ingredients we take in. Without fiber, sugar can be bad. With fiber, our body is better able to metabolise the full fruit or vegetable. In a similar way, the terpenes and flavonoids of the hemp plant help the body’s ECRs absorb the full benefit of the CBD.
Spruce offers not only a full-spectrum oil, they offer a distinctive strain of hemp that contains a unique terpene profile that no other CBD product can boast. Terpenes in all plants are what gives them their distinctive aromas. In CBD oils they’re thought to help pass the active cannabinol and cannabinoids into the brain more readily. Having a unique terpene in their hemp is what helps Spruce vault into our Best Full-Spectrum spot.
In addition to their unique terpene profile, Spruce has all of the other compounds in their oil that make up the entourage effect. Their products are also offered in some of the highest potencies we’ve seen for full-spectrum products, making them an ideal choice for people with high anxiety or tension who want to lower their blood pressure resulting from those conditions.
If you have hypertension and your doctor has allowed for full-spectrum CBD oil, we recommend the Spruce line of oils. Their moderate potency oil starts at $89 on their website.
CBDPure: Best Natural Product
Perhaps it’s all right there in the heading, for you. CBDPure is simply one of the most natural CBD products on the market. And they have the lab tests to back it up.
From only organically grown hemp to cold-pressing, all the way to third-party analysis, CBDPure offers the most unadulterated cannabinoid oil out there.
Using organic hemp is the start of what sets CBDPure apart. In fact, they even have a family farm in Washington State where they grow some of their own hemp, to ensure that it’s only the most natural product they can get. For their other hemp they source from growers in Colorado with whom they’ve developed personal relationships.
After getting the hemp product, they cold-press it and use CO2 extraction to make sure there are no harmful chemicals used in getting the most out of each plant. Some CBD producers use harsh compounds to separate the cannabinoids from the plant, but not CBDPure. The third-party lab results don’t just show how much CBD is in their product, they also show what isn’t in there.
Third-Party lab analysis shows no heavy metals; no residual solvents; no pesticides; and no other microorganisms that may be harmful to your body. That means only pure, natural CBD oil.
Because they don’t use chemical solvents, you’re also getting a full spectrum product, with all of the benefits of the entourage effect. CBDPure is so confident in their all-natural approach, they offer a 90-Day money-back guarantee. And they’re even Better Business Bureau accredited.
When it comes to lowering our blood pressure, many of us have had to make decisions about taking processed foods and beverages out of our diet. If you’d like to extend that to your CBD supplements, then we recommend CBDPure. Their oils range from $29.99 to $79.99 on their website based on potency.
Joy Organics: Best THC Free
Now that we’ve spoken quite a bit about full-spectrum CBD oils, we should mention one of the best products available that doesn’t contain any THC, at all.
Not only do we recommend Joy Organics as the Best THC Free product, we recommend it on its own rights, as well.
Joy Organics began when founder Joy Smith found the benefits of CBD oil for herself.
During her journey with hemp products, she became inspired to start a company grounded in her own beliefs about quality and purity.
The result has been Joy Organics, one of the only companies offering fully USDA certified organic CBD products. In addition to that, Joy Organics has submitted every batch of their broad-spectrum oil to third-party testing to verify that they are THC free. Those labs have certified that Joy Organics has 0.0% detectable amounts of THC in the tested products.
What this all means for you, the consumer, is a USDA certified organic supplement with zero THC. If you’re looking to help your blood pressure due to anxiety or tension, then this may be the best route to take for you. You won’t have to worry about herbicides or pesticides, and you won’t have to worry about the psychoactive effects of any THC in the product.
Before we move on to the Pros and Cons, we do need to let you know that no company can guarantee you won’t trigger a basic drug screening. That’s because many basic drug tests aren’t actually testing for THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, they’re testing for other markers of the cannabis plant or its compounds. This means Joy Organics cannot say you will pass every drug test. Only that they can guarantee their product is THC free.
Selecting the right CBD product can come down to preference and lifestyle. If you are among the many thousands who want all the benefits of cannabinoids without any worry about THC, then we recommend Joy Organics. Their 0.0% detectable THC, Organic oils start at $44.95 according to their website.
Charlotte’s Web: Best Quality Control
Quality can be measured in a number of ways. In food, taste is obviously one of the best ways to measure quality. If it’s a house, quality can come down to materials used and how long the structure stands up. When it comes to a product like CBD oil, where many products are third-party tested, the question of quality becomes a more detail-oriented issue. And Charlotte’s Web has attended to those details, giving them our nod as Best in Quality Control.
Paying attention to detail at Charlotte’s Web means more than just organically grown hemp, which they do have. And it means more than lab-tested products, which they also have. Attention to detail and quality for them means also being stewards of the environment and even holding Governance meetings to make sure that every employee is represented in company-wide decisions.
A lot of companies can claim to care about the environment, and most companies claim to care about their people. But Charlotte’s Web has really put their money where their mouth is, so to speak, as they’ve submitted to certification by a third party organization called B Lab. Pursuant to that vetting, Charlotte’s Web has been B Corp Certified.
This means that a third party has seen that Charlotte’s Web works with environmentally sound practices, partners with charitable organizations, and actually works for all of its stakeholders, not just investors. And by stakeholders, they mean neighbors, employees, and other companies in the area.
Meticulous care of details from growing to product to business practices to how they give profit to charities, Charlotte’s Web is a Quality organization in every sense of the word.
For high blood pressure relief due to hypertension or stress, you can’t find a company with better quality control than Charlotte’s Web, and they even offer several low-dose options, if you don’t want too much effect all at once.
If quality for you means a top-down company focused on superb business practices and products, then Charlotte’s Web is for you. That’s how we rated it Best in Quality Control, especially with their submission to a third-party vetting organization like B Lab. The lowest grade oil from Charlotte’s Web starts at only $23.99.
The science behind CBD products for high blood pressure is pretty clear. People who take CBD oil in acute, or short-term, applications had lower blood pressure related to anxiety, stress, or hypertension. While there is some evidence that CBD can help blood pressure related to high cholesterol and obesity, there isn’t as much to support its use in those cases.
We researched each of the products above and think they’re the best in their given category. But in every case, you should speak with your doctor about whether there will be any interactions with your current medications.
What Medications Interact with CBD?
We found a very informative article about what medication interact negatively with CBD applications. It’s from Harvard University and written by a pharmacology doctor. You can read it right here. The main medication the article warns about are blood thinners; heart rhythm meds; a thyroid medication; and anti-seizure medications.
If you’re looking at taking CBD for blood pressure issues, you may already be on some of the medications listed. That means it’s doubly important you consult your doctor or pharmacist before adding CBD into your routine.
Yes. The compounds found beneficial in hemp products naturally occur in the plant. However, some products are not so naturally produced. That’s why we did so much research finding the most natural and quality controlled products.
The truth is it may, yes. Just like eating a poppy-seed muffin could make you trigger a low-level test, so too can taking CBD trigger a drug test, even the 0.0% THC products.
The science says yes. Specifically CBD can help in acute situations where increased heart rate results in higher blood pressure. There is some other evidence that it may help with what’s called vasodilation, which would help with all forms of high blood pressure.
Absolutely not. Unfortunately there are some bad manufacturers out there. We were careful to look for companies that submit to third-party lab analysis, USDA certification, or other vetting processes.
Not necessarily. Everyone’s body is different. That means that even ‘proven’ medications may not work for you the way they work for other people. That’s why doing proper research, as we have, is so important.
